French Snail Racing Championship: Ready, Set, Slow!

As usual, the annual snail racing championship in France got off to a slow start this year.

Now in its 43rd installment, the march of the mollusks pits these slimy creatures against one another in an actual run for their lives. Those snails that don’t make it to the outer ring of the race track could find themselves in a big pot of escargot.

“It’s great, it’s a lot of fun,” one guest told Reuters in the video below. “It’s all about nature and it’s something different than we usually see.”

A Brief History of Military Camouflage

In the late ‘90s, the Canadian military adopted a digital pattern that replaced swirls with a pixilated design. The idea was not to make the uniforms undetectable, but rather to create ambient visual noise that the roving glance of an enemy would disregard. In 2001 the US Marines adopted a similar design. Today all branches of the American military have some version of digital camouflage.

Police Remind Shopper That A Full-Sized Fridge Does Not Fit Into The Trunk Of A Honda

A full-sized refrigerator is a pretty sizable appliance, usually requiring at least a van or pickup truck to haul to its destination. This is something the police in Richmond, British Columbia, had to remind a shopper who thought a few ropes and a prayer would get his fridge home in the trunk of a Honda Accord.

Richmond police said they received a call of a dangerous driving situation outside a store called Liquidation World. As you can see in the above photo taken by the RCMP, the fridge — secured with ropes tied to the rear seat belts — wouldn’t exactly engender confidence in anyone caught in traffic behind the Accord.

P-Tree Urinals at Roskilde Festival 2011

The P-Trees were a great success at the Roskilde Festival 2011 in Denmark, with more than 100,000 visitors and many of them using the P-TREE more than once. For Roskilde Aandeboom produced 50 P-Trees in the typical Roskilde Orange color. The P-Trees were placed on 2 different spots near the main stage.

By using the P-Tree the festivals problem with public peeing was significant reduced. The P-Tree can be hooked up to a central sewage system or connected to a tank with a pump.
