The Marathon Man: 365 Marathons in 365 Days

The marathon runner Stefaan Engels has set a new world record by completing his 365th marathon of 365 days.

The 49 year old from Belgium finished his final race in Barcelona, Spain on Saturday after running 15,000km (9,569 miles) across seven countries in a year. His ‘marathon of marathons’ started in Belgium last year and means that he sets a new record for the number of marathons run in a row. The previous record holder was 65 year old Akinori Kusuda of Japan, who ran 52 consecutive marathons in 2009.

Calls for his arrest force Bush to cancel trip to Europe

A planned trip by Bush to speak at the Switzerland-based United Israel Appeal later this week has been canceled after several human rights groups called for Swiss authorities to arrest Bush and investigate him for authorizing torture. Bush has traveled widely since leaving office, but not to Europe, where there is a strong tradition of international prosecutions.

Christina Aguilera Explains National Anthem Fumble At Super Bowl

Singer Christina Aguilera delivered a soulful version of the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLV in Dallas tonight–but it turns out she missed a few words and she’s hearing it from critics on the web.

Instead of singing the lyrics “O’er the ramparts we watch’d, were so gallantly streaming,” Xtina sang the line “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming.”

Aguilera’s representatives sent Speakeasy this statement from the singer: “I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”
