The PlayStation Phone

It’s hard to believe that what we’re looking at is real — but we assure you, the picture above is in fact the PlayStation Phone you’ve long been waiting for. As we reported back in August, the device you see is headed into the market soon, likely boasting Android 3.0 (aka Gingerbread), along with a custom Sony Marketplace which will allow you to purchase and download games designed for the new platform.

Oops, Olivia Wilde Didn’t Want To Be Sexy In ‘Tron’

Olivia Wilde may have totally botched her role in Tron in her opinion…she wasn’t trying to be sexy at all! The former model and House actress actually meant the character to come off as a kind of androgynous Joan of Arc. Um…ooooookay.

The Cost of Higher Edumacation

Here’s what I posit to you today: did you pursue further learning, did you find a job in your chosen field and how much are you into The Man for in order to pay for it? Also, was it worth it?

November 22, 2010 is a date that will go down in history for my wife and I. There’s nothing particularly spectacular about today as far as the rest of the world is concerned but, for we two heads of the household, it is a day that will be marked by joyous celebration and possibly several unnatural and lewd acts. You see, today is the day that Mrs. Scott’s student loans are finally paid. We’ve been married for eleven and one half years and those loans have been floating ominously for longer than we’ve been a legalized union according to the government.

I must admit that I get a little bit giddy when I think of what wondrous and frivolous things we could spend this newly liberated chunk of revenue on, then I remember that we have three children, a big-ass mortgage and haven’t really been able to save anything due to fiscal constraints. I suppose that now we’ll get to start saving for the future and, while necessary, it isn’t nearly as exciting as hanging a new 60” LCD television on the wall in my study (I don’t actually have a study but it makes me sound smart and sophisticated).

Rare earth elements in U.S. not so rare

Approximately 13 million metric tons of rare earth elements (REE) exist within known deposits in the United States, according to the first-ever nationwide estimate of these elements by the U.S. Geological Survey.

This estimate of domestic rare earth deposits is part of a larger report that includes a review of global sources for REE, information on known deposits that might provide domestic sources of REE in the future, and geologic information crucial for studies of the availability of REE to U.S. industry.

Howard Stern: 5 More Years with Sirius

With only four more days on his existing contract after this morning’s show, Stern announced he’ll stay on his Sirius/XM radio station for another 5 years — and after that, he’s done.

“I have come to the conclusion that the real innovators, the real geniuses are the people here at Sirius,” said Stern, adding “I can say with almost certainty that this is my final five years on radio.”

Panama Canal reopens after flooding

The Panama Canal reopened Thursday after heavy rains and flooding prompted the its closing for only the third time in its storied 96-year history.

The last time the canal closed was in 1989, after the United States invaded Panama to topple strongman Manuel Noriega. Landslides forced the canal to close for several months from late 1915 to mid-1916, just months after it opened.

The 48-mile canal is a key conduit for shipping between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. The canal was built from 1904 to 1914 by the United States, which had sole control over the channel across the Panamanian isthmus until 1979. Then, after 20 years of joint U.S.-Panama control, the Panamanian government assumed administration on December 31, 1999.
