Google Launches New ‘Body Browser’

Watch out, TSA: Google’s getting into the game of exploring the human body. Hang on, though — there’s no groping going on here. Google’s approach is a new educational tool called Google Body Browser.

Launched on the Google Labs website today, Google Body Browser uses HTML5 technology to let you examine the human body in fully layered, three-dimensional detail.

$10,000 Prize for a Better Spell Checker

Microsoft Research and Bing are looking for a few good spellers….and are willing to pay $10K for the best new spell check application. Microsoft should have done this before releasing Office 2010.

The goal of the Speller Challenge (the “Challenge” ) is to build the best speller that proposes the most plausible spelling alternatives for each search query. Spellers are encouraged to take advantage of cloud computing and must be submitted to the Challenge in the form of REST-based Web Services

Syfy Cancels ‘Stargate Universe’

There has been at least one Stargate series, including Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, on Syfy since 2002. The news follows the network’s decision to axe Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica. Both Caprica and Stargate Universe had performed modestly in the ratings.

Syfy has an upcoming series to fill the hole, the U.S. version of Being Human, along with returning favorites Haven, Eureka and Warehouse 13.

A German company installed the machine Friday at an upscale mall in Boca Raton, a South Florida paradise of palm trees, pink buildings and wealthy retirees.

Thomas Geissler, CEO of Ex Oriente Lux and inventor of the Gold To Go machines, says the majority of buyers will be walk-ups enamored by the novelty. But he says they’re also convenient for more serious investors looking to bypass the hassle of buying gold at pawn shops and over the Internet.
