Your Astrological Sign May Not Be What You Think It Is

It’s a great conversation starter: “What’s your sign?” But before you ask or answer that question, consider this: your zodiac sign corresponds to the position of the sun relative to constellations as they appeared over 2200 years ago!

The science behind astrology may have its roots in astronomy but don’t confuse these two disciplines. Astronomy can explain the position of the stars in the sky but it’s up to you to determine what, if anything, their alignment signifies.

The table below lists the dates when the Sun is actually within the astronomical constellations of the Zodiac, according to modern constellation boundaries and corrected for precession (these dates can vary a day from year to year).

You will most likely find that once precession is taken into account, your zodiac sign is different. And if you were born between November 29 and December 17, your sign is actually one you never saw in the newspaper: you are an Ophiuchus! The eliptic passes through the constellation of Ophiuchus after Scorpius.

Windoro: The Roomba for Windows

New Roomba-like household robots are popping every day, now. The Windoro consists of two scrubbing modules, one on each side of the glass, held together with magnets:

The robot uses distance sensors, attitude adjustment, and obstacle detection while doing its little window waltz, employing detergent and a series of spinning pads to wash up as it goes.

Facebook Likely to IPO in 2012

Once Facebook reaches 500 investors, an SEC rule will require the company to disclose its finances and begin quarterly reports, a usual precursor to the beginnings of an IPO offering.

The company, now based in Palo Alto, could still retain a private ownership structure, but an IPO is the more probable scenario given Facebook will have to make many of the same disclosures of a publicly traded company anyway.

Man who used to be a woman and woman who used to be a man support daughter who used to be son.

Dominik was a woman, Andrea was a man, and now after switching their genders they are a couple watching the son Dominik gave birth to, turn into a woman. Fifteen years ago, Ilona Tomeckova, a woman living in eastern Czech Republic, left her husband and young son to move to Prague and become Dominik Sejda, a man.

After becoming a man, Dominik found it hard to find a partner for years, but two years ago he met Andrea Kajzarova, another transsexual who, before a sex change, was a man named Tomas Kajzar, a bodybuilder. “She had a man’s genitals when we met, but she had a neutral name and looked rather like a woman,” Dominik said, adding he knew about three similar couples in the Czech Republic.

“Dominik has such personal charm that I told myself after about four months: yes, this is the guy I want to spend my life with,” said the tall and still powerfully-built Andrea. After meeting Andrea, Dominik decided to resume contacts with his former family, only to learn in awe that his son Radim was in the process of turning into a girl named Viktoria.

“I found a sexologist in May, she sent me to different checks, including genetics. My diagnosis was always ‘transsexual’,” said Radim, whose biological mother Dominik now insists on calling her son “Viki.” “We saw each other in May when we celebrated our birthdays together. The guys there made quite a few passes at her, so she looks good,” Dominik said.
