Man Gets Fired After Wife Gets Cancer

Massachusetts accountant Carl Sorabella had every reason to believe that his employer would grant his request for a more flexible schedule so that he could assist his wife, who had just been diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer and given only months to live. After all, he’d been with Haynes Management in Wellesley, for 13 years, and had just been given a raise in November.

But instead of a more accommodating schedule, he got a pink slip in response to his request, even though he had made it clear that he was willing to work nights and weekends to make up for the time he intended to spend taking his wife in for treatments and tests.

We spoke to Graham Jones, an award-winning Internet psychologist, to find out what different kinds of email addresses say about their owners.

This suggests a business-like approach – someone who wants a portable email to take anywhere. These people realise that they can have a permanent email address no matter where they work or what they do.

96-year-old woman confesses to 1946 murder

A murder mystery has been solved — 65 years later — with the confession of a 96-year-old woman.

The 1946 killing of Felix Gulje, the head of a construction company who at the time was being considered for a high political post, roiled the Netherlands, and the failure to find the assassin became a point of contention among political parties.

Changes to the law make driver-less cars legal

The hybrid vehicles use laser range finders and video cameras to detect traffic, and detailed maps to find their way from point to point.
‘Drivers’ simply set their destination and the car calculates the route and drives itself there.

The first amendment, which was passed last week, relates to an electric-vehicle bill providing for the licensing and testing of autonomous vehicles.
The second amendment, which has yet to be passed, is for an exemption that would permit sending a text message while ‘behind the wheel’.
