We geeks don’t stop until we know it all. So if you’ve been playing poker with the same people for a while, you learn their tells. John always rubs his right eye when he’s got pocket aces, Mike always blinks uncontrollably when he’s bluffing, Timmy always gnaws on his tail when he’s got a straight. This makes for very boring poker, since you can read everyone like a book.
Add the Ladies of Star Wars Playing Cards to the mix and suddenly, the game is more interesting again. Does Mike have a great hand or is he just staring into the eyes of a Twi’lek dancing girl? Is John not folding because he has a great hand or because he can’t bear the thought of throwing away Senator Amidala? And Timmy… well, he’s still gnawing on his tail, but we’re not sure what that means. Let’s just call.

Until now anything containing less than 10% alcohol in Russia has been considered a foodstuff.
The move, signed into law on Wednesday, will allow ministers to control the sale of beer in the same way that spirits are controlled. Russian alcohol consumption is already twice the critical level set by the World Health Organization.
Although vodka has long been the traditional tipple in Russia, beer has soared in popularity, being marketed as a healthier alternative to spirits. Over the past decade, beer sales in Russia have risen more than 40% while vodka sales have fallen by nearly 30%.
Correspondents say it is common to see people swigging beer in the street and in parks as if they are drinking soft drinks.

Someone has a sense of humor in Riverside, Iowa. The small city along the banks of the English River is, in Star Trek mythology, the birthplace of a certain Captain James T Kirk. One resident decided that Kirk’s birth to be had to be celebrated with a public monument – and so here you have it. Is it OK to say only in America at this point?
